back to the settlements beginning. Exploring Little Italy, downtown and

A little history: In 1910, San Diego’s population was just 39,578.
Balboa Park landscaping had begun, and San Diego Bay was home port to the
world’s tuna fleet. While ashore many Genoese and Sicilian fisherman lived
in the blocks overlooking the water, and soon referred to them as Little
Italy. One of the community’s favorite gathering places was a small hotel
on the corner of State and Grape, now known as the Little Italy Inn. Today
ownership has remodeled this beautiful Inn and preserved its architecture
and warmth.
